Let me tell you driving to and in Mexico city at night is a real challenge that I will not want to repeat. This did allow us to spend two more days with the Dymonds. They had invited us to join their family’s first Posada.… Read the rest

In Search of the Monarchs
On the first day of our team ride we woke to poor weather. We headed to the Monarch Bioreserve about an hour away.
The altitude and a 45 minute hike up the mountain from 3200 to 3700 feet put us out of breath.… Read the rest
Morelia
We were really on a mission to get to the Monarchs now. The 450 km drive to Morelia still took over 6 hours on the toll road.
Driving out of Puebla we saw smoke puffing out of the volcano. For the first time in weeks we actually saw other riders, but unfortunately on all 3 occasions they were on the other side of the toll road.… Read the rest

Uxmal ruins
We rode south and west again to Uxmal.
Traveling on the back roads involved some pot hole dodging. Got to love an amazing drive thru the jungle on an almost deserted road. Dan was very uncharacteristically swerving on the road and it was not until he stopped a few minutes later that I found he got stung on the face by a bee that came thru the crack his viser was open.… Read the rest

Celestun and thousands of Flamingos
After leaving Merida we rode west to the coast of the Gulf of Mexico at Celustun.
It is famous for Octopus hunting and the almost 30,000 pink flamingos that flock here. We saw a few birds from the bridge, but hired a boat for an hour tour of the estuary.… Read the rest
