Porto to Peso da Régua

We decided we needed to return to the Douro valley now that the weather is sunny and the group is all back together. We headed out of our digs near Porto and spent the day curving our way on the small road and mostly along the river.

IMG_4574Our lunch stop was at a churrasqueira on the side of the road that turned out to be packed and we had an amazing pork and chicken meal served by lovely people.

Trevor had found another apartment in Peso that turned out to be this massive 3 bedroom place. We did a shop at Lidl to get our supplies for the next couple of days.

Orvar visited the Douro valley museum and got the scoop. We can take the local train about 35 min up river to Pinhão and many of the quintas can be reached on foot.

The best experience we had was the first stop just across the bridge at Quinta das Carvalhas. We had a lovely and informative host and we ended up spending several hours there tasting wine and port. Luckily they served lots of snacks. She was kind enough to also give us a tasting of a 50 year old port. I had too much by the and hopped the train back while the boys tried out a few more spots. We all met downtown for some fine dining at Aneto and Table.
